Gian Luca Marsili, photographer in Milan
I love telling through pictures the stories I am passionate about , fixing a fleeting emotion in a unique frame to remember.
The desire to discover, the urge to excite, the taste to capture, three concepts that sum up the art of photography.

Three words to define me: photographer by passion.
For as long as I can remember, photography has been my way of connecting with the world. Not just a craft, but a language: a way to observe, to listen, to give back.
Among photographic genres, portrait photography is the one that most belongs to me. Not surprisingly, it is also one of the oldest and most universal genres: for centuries, portraiture has crossed cultures and languages, telling the singularity of people and fixing, of each, a unique mark.
It is precisely this richness that fascinates me: the possibility of interpreting a face in ever different ways-intimate, emotional, glamorous, narrative, corporate-each capable of returning a part of the truth, an authentic fragment of the story of the person who puts himself in front of the lens.
Even today–in the age of selfies consumed in an instant and then immediately forgotten–returning in an editorial portrait a significant moment of a personal story or fixing in a corporate portrait the salient feature of a professional is a craft that delivers to whoever is portrayed a fragment of his or her personality fixed in an image that will last.
I did not become a photographer by following an academic path: mine is a humanistic and literary education, born out of a love of stories and the written word.
Then, for many years, I worked in digital communications, helping companies and professionals build their voice and stand out through authentic messages.
Today I continue that journey through photography: if before I worked on words and strategies, now I do it with images, with faces, with looks.
Alongside the practice, I have always cultivated my eye and visual culture by comparing myself with the masters of photography of the past and present. Their images feed my imagination, teach me every day to look more carefully, to search for meaning beyond the surface, to recognize the power of a shot that knows how to get straight to the point.
The difference, I am convinced, is always made by authenticity. That’s why I look for the essentials in my portraits: not a forced pose or a glossy image, but that detail that really tells about the person. A gesture, a hint of a smile, a look that is not forgotten.
I consider myself a curious photographer, on the move, always searching. I do not believe in photography as absolute truth, but as an attempt to approach, by fragments, something true. In every encounter, in front of every face, there is an opportunity to discover a story worth telling.
I like to think that each portrait is a small visual story, unique and unrepeatable. If you would like to find out how this research takes shape, I invite you to take a look at my work and the services I offer: perhaps among my images you may recognize something that speaks of you as well.
